Hey Mark! As usual, I'm better at dispensing advice than following it myself. I haven't read Arctic Dreams, even though I seem to be promiscuously recommending it! Thanks for the intro, and mention!
And btw, for some reason Substack has stopped feeding me the 'stacks I actually follow, so I have to hunt down yours and others that I enjoy. That's not reader friendly! Will try harder to locate my fave reads from now on.
That's funny - I was feeling guilty that it took this long for your recommendation to percolate to the top of my reading list, and, as usual, that guilt I harbored was completely misplaced. There's a lesson there, I think. It's quite possible you threw it out in our early, optimistic days of the reading group ("let's read this! and this! and this!") and I jotted it down based on your tone of voice rather than the conviction behind it. Anyway, I'm glad I did - it really is a great book. Thanks!

As for this, all I can say is: not just reader-unfriendly, it seems to go against the very reason why Substack exists. Hmmm...
